Always wear long sleeves and long pants in the (tropical) rain forest. Good boots too. There are too many tiny things that want access to your skin. Quick-drying very light weight fabrics are better than cotton. Avoid cotton. Umbrellas are silly. Expect to get wet. You’ll need both hands for field work. Broad-brimmed hats are smart. Bring water! Yes, you can get dehydrated from sweating. Have a place to stow sunglasses, and wear them to and from the site. I know it’s hard to imagine being 60 when you’re 20, but take it from me, cataracts suck.
